Knowledge Empowers Justice

Justice Outreach Program

Knowledge Empowers Justice Project (KEJ) is a justice outreach program that empowers individuals with knowledge about their legal rights, particularly in the context of interactions with law enforcement. We strongly believe that informed citizens play an important role in shaping the justice system.

Provide a Supportive Platform

Our program not only educates individuals about their rights but also provides a safe and supportive platform for those who have been impacted by injustices within the criminal justice system or incidents of police brutality. Why?

In one year, more than 50 million people in the United States have contact with police during a traffic stop, street stop, arrest, traffic accident, or resident initiated contact.

About 1 million civilians experience police threat or use of force during interactions, with approximately 85,000 sustaining non-fatal injuries requiring hospital treatment, and 600-1000 resulting in death.

Black males, 6.1% of the US population, represent 24.9% of those killed by law enforcement. Both Black people and Hispanics are twice as likely to face police force, with Black people over twice as likely to be killed and nearly five times as likely to suffer injuries needing medical care compared to white non-Hispanics.
